TCA Releases 2016-17 annual report

Transport Certification Australia (TCA) has released its annual report for FY2016-17, highlighting telematics and related intelligent technology disruption.

“Our Annual Report highlights the increasing pace at which technologically-driven changes are influencing public policy deliberations and government decision making,” said TCA Chief Executive Officer Chris Koniditsiotis.

“It also highlights the breadth of activities TCA now performs in relation to telematics and related technologies, and importantly, how we contribute to improved outcomes across policy areas and industry sectors.

“For example, during 2016-17 two new functional and technical specifications were released – which will benefit by multiple road agencies, regulators and end-users alike.

“Central to TCA’s purpose is our management of an open technology market. This platform approach not only provides competition and choice for the end user, it provides a standardised approach to data collection, privacy management and security across policy areas and industry sectors.

“During 2016-17 we observed a significant growth in the use of technology applications administered by TCA, and the adoption of in-vehicle technologies,” he said.

The TCA has reported the following key results: A 27 per cent annual growth in the number of devices used that meet TCA requirements, over 60 approved device ‘types’, ranging from smartphones to advanced in-vehicle telematics systems and seven active applications from technology providers seeking type-approval of devices/systems.

“Within the report you will also find a feature on our work we have contributed to the Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) space,” said Koniditsiotis. “This includes leading the International Harmonisation Task Groups in developing connected vehicle security and standards, releasing a discussion paper and hosting an event on this matter. TCA also contributed to work on Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAVs).”

MEGATRANS2018

As the nation’s governing body for the telematics community – providing assurance in the use of telematics and related intelligent technologies – TCA will host a unique Telematics Hub on the exhibition floor of transport, logistics and supply chain event MEGATRANS2018.

Spread across a 30,000m2 footprint, MEGATRANS2018 will distinguish between four distinct functional areas, including Logistics and Materials Handling, Warehouse & Storage, Infrastructure; Road Transport and Air, Sea & Rail.

TCA will take an active involvement in driving intelligent multimodal technology solutions across the integrated exhibition and conference format of MEGATRANS2018 through its Telematics Hub.
